MADISON – The University of Wisconsin-Madison will celebrate its long-standing tradition of service and outreach in the state of Wisconsin at the State Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

As part of UW-Madison Day at the State Fair, more than 20 scientific “Exploration Stations” will be located throughout the central mall.

In addition, fairgoers can visit the Food Demonstrations tent to learn about research connected with their favorite Wisconsin products, and treat themselves to a sample of Babcock ice cream.

Aspiring Badgers can visit the Backdrops tent to take their photo as a member of the UW Marching Band, Badger football player, UW-Madison graduate, or scientist.

On the main stage, fair attendees can view “The Art of Making Cheese,” followed by the popular “Wonders of Physics” exhibit. For those who want to show their Wisconsin pride, a traditional Badger pep rally will be held at 1 p.m.

Following the pep rally, fans can join the UW Marching Band as the university leads the fair’s daily parade. On hand to lead the parade is Braveheart, Madison’s own canine celebrity whose miraculous recovery this spring under the care of UW-Madison veterinary experts won the hearts of many.

Fairgoers can also check out a fleet of innovative vehicles developed at UW-Madison, see UW-Madison’s recent sports championship trophies and test their athletic skills with the Badgers’ pop-a-shot and hockey games.

As part of the day’s festivities, the university is sponsoring a school supplies drive to benefit Milwaukee-area children who need materials for the upcoming year. Those who donate will receive a $5 discount on a Midway “Ride All Day” wristband.

For those wishing to donate to the drive in Madison, collection bins will be set up through Friday in the commons of the Education Building on Bascom Hill; the provost’s office in Room 150, Bascom Hall; the Office of Human Resources at 21 N. Park St.; on the second floor of Agricultural Hall on Linden Drive; and in the lobby of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, 650 N. Lake St.
