WHAT: Many community members and organizations in the continued fight and against poverty and for housing rights will come together Thursday August 4th at 6-8 pm at the Villager Mall Atrium to strategize passing a “Housing is a Human Right” Resolution for Madison and Dane County.

Drafted by the Affordable Housing Action Alliance, Operation Welcome Home, Take Back the Land-Madison and Freedom Inc., the resolution highlights daunting statistics on homelessness and the housing crisis in Madison, and Dane County, and reaffirms efforts and plans that have been made, as well as suggesting new visions to address these staggering problems.

Brenda Konkel longtime housing activist and advocate said, “It’s about time the city to comes up with a housing strategy and plan. It’s an issue that has long been ignored, and reaffirming what is in place is a first step.”

Another architect of the resolution, M. Adams with Take Back the Land-Madison and Freedom Inc. said, “The struggle for low-income people to secure and maintain housing in this faltering economy is a central part of how poverty is reinforced. Our communities need improvement and this is a step in the right direction.”

This meeting will be held for community members to discuss the resolution, make plans for garnering support for its passage, and vision for next steps beyond passage of the resolution.

WHEN: Thursday, August 4th at 6:00-8:00 p.m.

WHERE: Villager Mall Atrium, 2300 S. Park St.
