Sustainable Supply: Named 5th fastest growing online retailer in America

Glendale, WI – August 12, 2011 – Sustainable Supply Company, a leading provider of green building products and maintenance supplies, has just been named the 5th fastest growing online retailer in America by Internet Retailer magazine.

Despite a sluggish economy and a slowdown in the commercial construction marketplace, Sustainable Supply posted a staggering 773% increase in sales in 2010. That growth also helped the company earn the “fastest growing” spot in the Hardware/Home Improvement category, and an overall ranking of 974 based on total online sales in 2010. “Sustainable Supply Company’s ability to capitalize on growing consumer interest in green merchandise, as well as its diversified product offering drove web sales in 2010,” says Mark Brohan, Vice President of research for Internet Retailer magazine.

Started in 2009 in Boulder, CO, Sustainable Supply has quickly emerged as a top online destination for products that help customers build, work, and live “green”. The company relocated their corporate headquarters to Glendale, WI in 2011, and has already expanded their offices and staff to keep up with customer demand. Sustainable Supply will be launching an updated version of their website, http://www.sustainablesupply.com“>SustainableSupply.com, later this year with over 250,000 new products, enhanced social sharing functions, and daily deals similar to Groupon.

“What we’ve learned very quickly is that eco-focused customers who are purchasing green products from us also require everyday products that help them run their businesses and homes,” says Chief Operating Officer, Brian Fricano. “For example, we currently offer low flow toilets however we don’t offer the braided hose, wax rings, or tools needed for installation. We obviously want to capture this additional business, but we also believe that we can deliver these products in the most sustainable way compared to our competitors in the industry,” adds Fricano.

By implementing a carbon free shipping program in Q4, Sustainable Supply will soon be offsetting the carbon emissions of all of their ground shipments. “As we expand our product portfolio to include tools, hardware, and safety supplies it’s important for us not to sacrifice our core principals of sustainability. Our partnership with Green Shipping will enable us to offer regular MRO products to our customers while meeting our goals of carbon footprint reduction,” continued Fricano. Customers will be able to track the carbon emissions of their shipments on SustainableSupply.com and will have a record of the offset purchased. This program will be offered at no charge for all domestic shipments.

Sustainable Supply has been actively engaging the local Milwaukee-area community of like-minded organizations and businesses since relocating here. They’ve recently partnered with the water conservation start-up, H2O Score, to help local restaurants reduce their water consumption. They’re also working with the Urban Ecology Center on improving their green cleaning programs and sourcing products for their new facility in the Menomonee Valley. With a LEED AP and Certified Green Consultant on staff, the company plans to help other local businesses, schools, and organizations green their operations.
