Stella & Chewy’s: Cupid captures Stella & Chewy’s heart

Stella & Chewy’s sponsors sick pup for one year, annual company donations exceed $275,000 for 2011 to-date

Muskego, WI (October 20, 2011) – What’s small, furry and a Stella & Chewy’s believer? Cupid, the adorable ARFhouse Chicago rescue dog. His story has captured the hearts of hundreds, including Stella & Chewy’s. Found abandoned in a Texas field, starving and alarmingly thin, Cupid and his littermates were taken in by ARFhouse Texas, before being transported to ARFhouse Chicago. Cupid spent the next year and a half waiting for his forever home before finally landing in Jill Tondu’s foster care with her adoptive pets.

It wasn’t long before it was discovered that Cupid had been born with not one, but two heart conditions. The first being an extremely severe valvular pulmonic stenosis, meaning the valve sending blood to his lungs is deformed and he struggles to get a healthy amount of blood pumping. He was also diagnosed with severe subaortic stenosis, a deformation to the valve responsible for sending blood to his organs. Both of these conditions have caused Cupid’s heart to over work and his cardiac walls are becoming increasingly thicker – a dangerous side effect for an already sick pup.

These diagnoses make treatments impossible and Cupid, named for his loving disposition and multiple heart problems, will experience difficulty getting a healthy amount of oxygen to his brain. Therefore, Cupid will suffer increasingly frequent and serious moments of faintness until his little heart eventually gives out in just a few short years.

Because Stella & Chewy’s knows the value of a healthy diet, they’ve taken Cupid under their furry wing and are providing him with enough food to feed him while nurturing his ailing heart. Today, Cupid enjoys four proportioned nutrient-packed Stella & Chewy’s meals a day, to help him sustain a healthy blood flow to his lungs and other organs, just like his Cardiac Vet suggested. Jill, Cupid’s foster mom has told us that little Cupid now loves his food, is much more active and has even gained a few pounds!

And Stella & Chewy’s doesn’t stop there. In 2011, they’ve reported donating as much as $275,000 in food, treats and monetary donations to animals and shelters in need. Marie Moody, Stella & Chewy’s Founder and President, continues to make sure no pet is left behind, regularly donating food to local animal shelters. Marie comments, “It’s important to us to help rescue animals, after all it was my adoptive dogs that inspired me to start Stella & Chewy’s. We strive to make a difference in the quality of life of our customer’s pets as well as the lives of dogs and cats who are less fortunate.”
