The Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin Opens

Baldwin Area Medical Center Celebrates 75th Anniversary

This week, two medical providers in St. Croix County will celebrate important milestones. In New Richmond, Wisconsin, the Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin will host a grand opening on Tuesday, June 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. to mark its opening. The Baldwin Area Medical Center (Baldwin, Wisconsin) observes its 75th anniversary with a community event on Wednesday, June 8th from 4:30 – 7:30 pm.

“Access to medical services is vital whether you reside in a large urban area, the suburbs, or in rural communities,” said William Rubin, executive director of St. Croix Economic Development Corporation. “Medical service is an essential factor for successful economic development, much like water, sewer, electricity, highways, a trained workforce, and even connectivity through telephone, cable, and broadband are key elements.”

The Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin is a collaborative partnership of six local medical providers in west central Wisconsin — Amery Regional Medical Center (Amery, Wisconsin), Baldwin Area Medical Center (Baldwin), Hudson Hospital & Clinics (Hudson), Osceola Medical Center (Osceola), St. Croix Regional Medical Center (St. Croix Falls), and Westfields Hospital (New Richmond).

Construction was completed in May and new patients from Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota are receiving treatment. The cancer center contains about 12,000 square feet and features linear accelerator and treatment areas for radiation therapy; patient exam, consultation and procedure rooms; private and semi-private infusion therapy rooms; and space for cancer care education and support programs for multiple specialities. The center is staffed by specialists from Minneapolis Radiation Oncology P.A. and the medical oncology department from HealthPartners.

The Baldwin Area Medical Center opened in 1936 as the first facility in St. Croix County used exclusively as a hospital. A local farmer directed funds through his will to start the project. The hospital has grown over the years and services now include many partners and specialities. They include emergency medicine, endocrinology, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, and radiology. In 1995 Baldwin Hospital was recognized as a “Top 100 Hospital” in the U.S. Last year, the hospital opened the Roberts Medical Clinic in nearby Roberts, Wisconsin. The clinic features exams rooms, a procedure room, digital x-ray services, and an on-site lab.
