St. Croix Economic Development Corp.: Home buying activity released for 10-county region

Home sales for the month of November 2010 and Year-to-Date sales (January-November 2010) were released on December 20th by the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA). WRA reported that home sales in Wisconsin were significantly lower than last November, even as home prices rose slightly The current market in the 10-county region of west central and northwest Wisconsin reflects the statewide trends.

Throughout the state, the WRA says the sales of existing homes in November 2010 were down 34 percent from November 2009 levels, but median prices were almost unchanged over the same 1-year period, falling just $50 to $135,950.

“The volume of home sales for November 2010 was down 39.4 percent in St. Croix County compared to one year ago,” observed William Rubin, executive director of St. Croix Economic Development Corporation (EDC). “Meanwhile, the one-year change in the median price is up just 1.4 percent,” he added. The REALTORS® Association reported 60 home sales in St. Croix during November 2010, compared to 99 sales 1-year ago. St. Croix’s November 2010 median price of $150,000 is above WRA’s “west” region and the State of Wisconsin, which reported a median price of $134,000 and $135,950 respectively.

In the 10-county region, November median sales prices ranged from $50,010 in Clark County (a 19.3% decline from Nov. 2009 ) to $156,000 in Pierce (a 7.1% decline from Nov. 2009).
