KENOSHA, Wis. – (March 25, 2011) – Leading construction organizations and pharmaceutical giant Abbott Laboratories recognized Riley Construction for its significant achievements in project safety for 2010.

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Wisconsin acknowledged the outstanding safety performance of Riley Construction with its 2010 Safety Excellence Award. The award is presented to companies that had at least 4,000 work hours with no fatality in 2010 and an injury rate less than 75 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ national average for general construction. AGC of Wisconsin is one of 95 chapters of the AGC of America, the strongest, oldest and most widely respected construction association in the country.

The Milwaukee Construction Industry Safety Council presented its Safety Award to Riley Construction for the firm’s track record of demonstrating safety on its jobsites. The Safety Council is a group of construction professionals who are responsible for the safety of their company’s employees. These leaders meet quarterly to discuss topics of concern among companies that perform the majority of the commercial construction that occurs each year in the Metro Milwaukee area.

The Lake County Contractors Association, which represents over 170 companies in northern Illinois, recognized Riley Construction with a Division III Honorable Mention Award for outstanding safety program. The award was presented for Riley Construction’s lost work day ratio of 0.74, which is well below the 1.9 national average.

Finally, Abbott Laboratories bestowed its Zero OSHA Recorded Incidents Award to Riley Construction for having no OSHA recorded safety incidents after logging more than 17,000 work hours on Abbott construction projects last year.

“Safety is a critical component to our construction program and Riley’s corporate culture,” said Mark Toepfer, Safety and Risk Manager for Riley Construction. “It is taught, lectured and engrained with all our people and those that work with us and to be recognized for our achievements in safety by such highly regarded organizations is a tremendous honor to say the least.”
