Radio Disney AM 1640, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield: Radio Disney teams up with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to promote childhood health and wellness through the get active, get fit school challenge

Schools Must Register by September 30

MILWAUKEE – Sept. 19, 2011 – Radio Disney AM 1640, part of the number one radio network for kids, tweens and families, has teamed up with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin to promote the importance of childhood health and wellness through the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge, which is open to kindergarten through sixth grade students in schools across the state of Wisconsin.

Designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities, participants in the challenge should “get active and get fit” for at least 20 minutes every day—or as often as possible. In order to successfully complete the challenge, students must be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days in the challenge, which runs from Oct. 3, 2011 through Nov. 26, 2011.

“Rather than running around and playing outside, too many of our kids have become couch potatoes,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “This is a major problem because we know that sedentary lifestyles place our youth at increased risk of developing lifelong health challenges, including diabetes and obesity.”

“The Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge will help get kids moving again and teach them healthy habits that can last a lifetime.”

The first five principals to sign up* their school by the Sept. 30, 2011 deadline at http://www.getactivegetfit.com will be eligible to win a gym/outdoor deluxe activity kit worth $500 upon completion of the challenge. The top 20 schools with the highest percentage of completed participation will receive a live Radio Disney Dance Party at their school.
