Stand Up Paddleboarding Lessons Return to the Waters of Lake Wingra This Summer in Madison to benefit the Henry Vilas Zoo
Madison, Wi.—Haven’t had a chance to try the latest craze of stand up paddleboarding (SUP)? Come out this Saturday, August 6th to learn or practice paddleboarding on the waters of Lake Wingra.
Hosted by Paddleboard Specialists of Madison, Wisconsin, “Paddle for the Polar Bears” will raise funds for the Henry Vilas Zoo’s soon-to-be-built Arctic Passage, a state of the art home for polar bears and seals.
“Paddle for the Polar Bears” is all about having a good time while engaging in a fast-growing, simple-to-learn water sport. Wingra Boats is co-sponsoring this family friendly event series.
“Give me 10 minutes and I’ll have you paddleboarding. It’s easy, fun, and it’s a great workout,” says Gary Stone, event organizer and owner of Madison outfitter Paddleboard Specialists. “The gear required is minimal: a board, paddle, leash and personal flotation device…and you’re off!”
“Paddle for the Polar Bears” is designed for both first time paddleboarders as well as those wishing to practice or improve their paddleboarding skills. Registration for each event is $25 which includes an hour long lesson and all equipment necessary to paddleboard.
Most importantly, 50% of all lesson proceeds go to Madison’s local, free, Henry Vilas Zoo and the new Arctic Passage exhibit. Your paddling directly benefits the polar bears!”
Paddleboard Specialists’ experienced staff will teach all lessons which begin at 9 a.m. and run every hour and a half until 3 p.m. on each of the 3 event dates. Pre registration is recommended to secure your spot.

Boats will have a wide variety of watercraft available for rent and will donate $2 from each boat rental to the zoo during each of the 3 Paddle for the Polar Bear events. Choose from row boats, canoes, peddle boats and the ever popular swan boats.
