Janesville Monsanto site helps sustain local mobile food pantry

JANESVILLE, Wis. – Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin serves nearly 141,000 adults and children in 16 Southwestern Wisconsin counties annually. The organization provides not only nourishment to hungry individuals, but also offers hope during times of need. The Janesville Monsanto site took notice of this and nominated the Second Harvest Foodbank to receive a $5,000 grant to aid them in their efforts.

Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin was presented with the grant from the Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company, at a presentation at the food bank on Nov. 21. The organization operates 30 mobile food pantries, providing groceries to those in need. The funds from this grant will help to sustain the Janesville Mobile Pantry, which distributed 137,793 pounds of food to 6,262 individuals last year alone.

“Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is pleased to team up with the Monsanto Fund to address the needs of our community,” said Dan Stein, president and CEO of the food bank. “With national and local economic conditions directly impacting the hungry right here in Janesville, grants like this make a significant difference in the lives of those in need.”

Thomas Jury of Monsanto was excited to present the grant to the organization.

“The employees of the Janesville Monsanto site recognize the valuable contribution that Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin makes to our community,” Jury said. “We are thrilled to be able to contribute in any way.”

This grant is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund, which is focused on strengthening farming communities, as well as the communities where Monsanto’s employees live and work.
