Program I: “The Return of Country Risk”

Country risk is usually associated with underdeveloped markets, but it is easy to forget that it can also affect “rich” countries. Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of international tensions over trade and currency exchange rates, protests and work stoppages in European counties, the possibility of sovereign debt defaults, government bail-outs and even doubt over whether the euro will survive. In this program, our speakers will review developments and put them into perspective.

Voters shifted the paradigm in November 2010 from a big-government, centralized bureaucratic model, to a decentralized, small government model dedicated to personal and economic growth. But will elected representatives rethink the role of government in American life? Will they reform the processes where government has a legitimate role? And will they operate government in a cooperative manner with the private sector to rebuild our nation’s economy?

Join Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) for Business Day in Madison 2011! We are confident each of the speakers on the 2011 agenda will deliver an insightful address to make this a valuable program.
