MILWAUKEE – Kevin Kennedy, director and general counsel of the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB), will be the featured guest at the Milwaukee Press Club’s next Newsmaker Luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 11:45 to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee at 137 E. Wells St.

Kennedy will discuss the role of the GAB and the status of the recall drives being attempted against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four state senators.

He also will provide insights for the community about how Milwaukee’s inner city residents and senior citizens who do not have drivers licenses, as well as college students, can obtain adequate identification to meet the standards of the state’s new Voter I.D. law.

Kennedy also will provide updates about the state’s redistricting and a lawsuit recently filed by Republicans to move up the redistricting boundaries they had approved for 2013 to instead take effect in the 2012 recall elections.

Prior to the formation of the GAB – a merger of the Wisconsin State Elections Board and State Ethics Board – Kennedy was executive director of the Elections Board, serving as the chief election officer for the State of Wisconsin since August 1983. Before becoming executive director, he served as legal counsel to that board.

Kennedy previously served as an assistant district attorney in Washington County.

A media panel featuring local professional journalists will interview Kennedy. Questions from members of the audience also will be accepted near the conclusion of the luncheon.

The Milwaukee Press Club’s Newsmaker Luncheon Series is sponsored by Journal Communications and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
