Milwaukee, WI – The law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is pleased to announce that Michelle Jacobs, a former United States Attorney, has joined the firm as a partner. Jacobs will handle complex litigation matters and appellate work with an emphasis on cases before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jacobs has successfully argued more than 50 cases before the federal courts of appeals, including the high-profile case involving former Milwaukee Alderman, Michael McGee. Jacobs also has tried numerous jury trials, including a successful case against four individuals attempting to illegally smuggle U.S. technology to China. Among the awards she has received is the 2009 “Women in the Law” award presented by the Wisconsin Law Journal.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Jacobs worked in the United States Attorney’s Office for 16 years. For eight of those years, she held a number of supervisory positions, including three years as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and one year as United States Attorney. Prior to coming to work at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jacobs served as a clerk for the chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Jacobs received her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
