December 2, 2011 – Madison, WI – Madison Public Library’s Central Library will reopen to the public at an interim location at 126 S. Hamilton St. on Monday, December 5 at 9 am.

The Central Library will remain on Hamilton St. until the new Central Library is completed in 2013. The Central Library at 126 S. Hamilton St. will be open the same hours as the library on Mifflin St.: Mondays-Thursdays 9 am – 9 pm, Fridays 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 5 pm. The telephone numbers have also remained the same; the main number is 608-266-6300. Customers are encouraged to contact library staff for assistance in transferring their holds to the Central Library after December 5 or in reactivating their suspended holds.

The book drop at 201 W Mifflin St. will remain open until it can be moved to and installed at 126 S. Hamilton St.

The interim Central Library at 126 S. Hamilton features a smaller service area and a smaller collection focusing on popular and new books, DVDs, CDs, books on CD, rotating display collections, and a small children’s book collection. There are 22 internet access computers available to the public. The majority of the Central Library’s collection has been moved to off-site storage on the east side of the city, but is still available to the public through online reservation by LINKcat and delivery to any public library in the South Central Library System.

Construction of the new Central Library is expected to begin in February 2012, with the new Central Library expected to open in the summer of 2013.
