Kubala Washatko Architects of Cedarburg WI, working with Madison-based Sergenian’s Floor Coverings has been announced as the recipient of the 2011 Environmental Achievement Award by StarNet Worldwide. StarNet is one of the largest flooring organizations in the world, representing over $2 billion in sales from 170 partners.

According to StarNet, this prestigious honor “rewards the creativity and talent of architectural firms and our members by recognizing outstanding commercial interiors featuring innovative flooring products and technologies.”

Sergenian’s has long been known as a leader in environmental innovation, and its recent project with the Madison Children’s Museum upheld that distinction. Using products from Mohawk, Johnsonite, Ardex and Dal Tile, the team brought together design and durability with a special combination of reclaimed wood, linoleum and ceramic, among other green materials.

“Our experience proves that lowering your carbon footprint should not be synonymous with lowering your expectation for a great result,” says Jim Garner, CEO of Sergenian’s. “This project puts an exclamation mark on that sentiment.”
