5,000 Tumble into Madison

(Madison, WI)- The United States Trampoline and Tumbling Association (U.S.T.A.) will roll into Madison for an incredible competition. Catch all the action of the U.S.T.A. Nationals from June 17-23 on the Alliant Energy campus at the Veterans Memorial Center Coliseum. The event will bring over 5,000 athletes and fans to the Greater Madison area with boys and girls age three and older competing for national championship titles in three events: tumbling, trampoline, and double-mini trampoline.

The Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC) estimates that the event will generate approximately $1,129,000 in direct spending to the area’s economy. With the help of Kris’ Power Tumbling Dance and Cheer of Shelbyville, IL, the local organizing committee for the event, athletes, families, and friends will be adding a great bounce to Madison’s bottom line.

“We are excited to be hosting this event,” says Kris Metzger of Kris’ Power Tumbling Dance. “Fans, athletes, and the community alike are definitely in for a treat.”

The U.S.T.A. is equally ecstatic, “The U.S.T.A. is excited to have their 41st U.S.T.A. Nationals in Madison, WI,” says Patti Lingenfelter, Executive Director of USTA. “We held it there in 2012 and the people loved it!” Lingenfelter hopes to host over 4,000 events and bring in nearly 2,000 athletes for this competition which would make the 2012 nationals one of the largest U.S.T.A. nationals to date.

“We are thrilled that U.S. Trampoline and Tumbling Association has selected Madison again for the 2012 National Championships; the newest generation of tumblers will get to experience what we do on a daily basis – a unique, inviting city with a wide array of summer activities to take advantage of,” says Jamie Patrick, Director of Sports Sales and Program Development for the MASC.

About U.S.T.A. Competitions:

Nationals consist of three different events: tumbling, trampoline, and double-mini trampoline. Athletes are able to choose the number of events that they will compete in. Each event category is then broken down into separate divisions based on competitor’s skill level and age.

Power tumbling competitors perform in a straight line on a tumbling strip. This event is defined by continuous, rotational movement without hesitation or taking intermediate steps. Trampoline athletes perform a 10 bounce routine on a rectangular trampoline. Lastly, those competing in the double-mini trampoline perform on two small trampolines. In this event, athletes start on one trampoline and move to the other before dismounting into a small landing area. For each event, the number of moves and types of moves required differs based on the subcategory of skill level division.
