Director of Architectural Services will present to senior living providers at annual conference

(Appleton, WI) Hoffman LLC Director of Architectural Services Miles Girouard will co-present on implementing culture change within assisted living facilities to administrators, managers and direct care staff during the Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (WAHSA) 2011 Spring Conference and Annual Business Meeting. The conference takes place at the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin May 4 – 6th.

Girouard will be presenting with Amy Ruedinger, founder and president of Pinnacle Innovative Health Care Solutions, LLC on the important link between the physical environment and the delivery of person-centered care. “We are seeing a shift in the senior housing industry toward recognizing that physical space and individualized care go hand in hand toward developing an environment that is best suited for residents and staff,” Girouard stated.

The first part of the two-part session will focus on supporting staff, residents, and families as they transition from the more traditional medical model of care toward a person-centered approach and cost effective ways to accommodate the changes.

The second part of the session will explore innovative design and renovation tips and solutions for assisted living facilities. “The end result of a project is the same no matter if you are considering a renovation or new construction,” Girouard stated. “It’s about creating a space that enhances a resident’s sense of independence and eliminating the traditional, institutionalized approach to assisted living and creating homelike environments and social settings.”

With more than 22 years of industry experience, Girouard’s design approach encourages collaboration among his team and administrators and medical staff. “Our goal is to develop a design that transforms medical-model facilities into warm, inviting, person-centered environments,” Girouard stated. “Involving administrators and staff at the start of the process and throughout ensures we are meeting their needs and providing their organization a valuable business solution.”

Hoffman is a nationally recognized leader in senior housing design and construction and was recently honored for their design of Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh’s new 77-acre campus, Eden Meadows. “Eden Meadows is a great example of what culture change can produce,” Girouard stated. “The campus features two Green House® Homes—the first facilities of their kind in Wisconsin—which focus on providing skilled nursing care for residents in an enriching, home-like environment.”

WAHSA is a statewide membership organization of not-for-profit corporations principally serving seniors and persons with a disability. The organization provides programs and services to assist members in meeting the needs of elderly and disabled individuals.
