County partners with Hoffman LLC for renovation project

(Appleton, WI) Columbia County has partnered with Hoffman LLC, a planning, design, and construction firm in Appleton, to renovate its current Health Care Center located at 323 West Monroe Street in Wyocena, Wisconsin. Renovations will include additional resident bathrooms, smaller, more intimate dining areas, and an enhanced community gathering area.

“We are so excited to see this project begin as the renovation will enhance the lives of our 122 residents,” stated Amy Yamriska, administrator for the Health Care Center. “Columbia Health Care Center is a true asset to the County and these renovations will make us shine even more.”

Work is being done while the skilled nursing facility is fully occupied. “It’s important during the renovation that the staff is able to maintain the level of care they have always provided residents,” stated Bill Aubrey, senior project manager with Hoffman. “Through some creative thinking we developed life-safety minded solutions which allowed the project to move forward with as little disruption as possible to staff and residents.” For example, two temporary exterior corridors were created to serve as safe paths during construction. They will remain after the project and be turned into outside porch areas.

The design of the project focused on updating finishes throughout the facility, upgrading the ventilation system and softening the current environment to appear less institutional.

“Hoffman is thrilled to be partnering with Columbia County on this important renovation to its Health Care Center,” Aubrey stated. “We’re very pleased to have been able to increase the scope of work and benefits for Columbia County while maintaining the original budget that was developed prior to Hoffman’s involvement.”

A number of local contractors and Columbia County residents are involved in the project including: Portage Glass Company, Freedom Carpeting, Inc., Zimmerman Plumbing Inc., and Electric One.

Hoffman began working with Columbia County on the design of the project during the summer of 2011. Work on the facility is expected to be completed in February of 2013.
