Madison – Governor Scott Walker announced today that the National Governors Association (NGA) had chosen Milwaukee, Wisconsin to host the nation’s governors for the organization’s 2013 Annual Meeting, August 2-4. Wisconsin previously hosted the National Governors Association in 1914 and 1998.

“We’re excited that Wisconsin has been selected to host the nation’s governors in 2013,” said Governor Scott Walker. “NGA meetings offer governors the opportunity to sit together and focus on solutions and ideas that improve state government and strengthen the federal-state partnership. I am honored that my fellow governors have selected us as their host and am thrilled for the opportunity to showcase the world-class city of Milwaukee and all that this wonderful state has to offer. We’re also grateful for VISIT Milwaukee partnering with the state to help bring NGA here.”

“NGA is excited to be gathering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the 2013 Annual Meeting,” said NGA Chair Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman. “Milwaukee will serve as an excellent setting for the nation’s governors to come together and meet in bipartisan forums on the critical issues facing our states and America.”

NGA’s nine-governor executive committee selected Milwaukee for its first-class hotel and meeting facilities, as well as the city’s overall appeal. Wisconsin’s strong bid demonstrated the state’s ability to meet all of the association’s criteria for hosting an Annual Meeting, including numbers of properties and venues needed; hotel accommodations; and transportation, security and volunteers needs.

“We are thrilled that the National Governors Association has selected us as the site of its 2013 annual meeting. When you think of all the wonderful cities and destinations in the United States, it is quite an honor that we in Milwaukee were chosen to host this prestigious event,” said Paul Upchurch, president and CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. “We are looking forward to rolling out the red carpet and showcasing the best of Milwaukee to our distinguished guests.”

This is one of the organization’s two official business meetings held each year. The next Winter Meeting will be held in Washington, D.C., February 25-27. The next Annual Meeting will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia, July 13-15, 2012.
