MADISON—Governor Scott Walker issued the following statement on Senator Hopper and Representative Tauchen’s announcement that they would be bringing forward venture capital legislation.
“I commend Senator Hopper and Representative Tauchen for working on another important jobs bill with venture capital legislation,” said Governor Walker. “For too long venture capital has been lacking in our state. Senator Hopper and Representative Tauchen’s bill will add a much needed economic development tool to our state’s portfolio, helping to create more jobs.”
The state’s need for additional venture capital resources is well documented. Wisconsin received less than one percent of nation’s venture capital in the first three months of this year, leading the Wisconsin State Journal to editorialize that venture capital is the state’s “missing link in job growth chain.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial page has also written that attracting more venture capital to the state is “much needed.”
