Madison–Today State Representatives Warren Petryk and Tom Larson introduced a bill that would use resources from the recently increased state revenue projections to pay bills that are due. This legislation would pay for unfunded lapses, prevent delaying the next school aid payment and direct the state to pay back the Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund.

In response to the introduction of the bill to pay the bills, Governor Walker released the following statement:

I support the Legislature’s push to pay the bills that the last administration left the taxpayers. The plan introduced by the Legislature today represents a commitment to Wisconsin’s future by making the tough decisions necessary to get our state’s fiscal house in order.

The time has come to act responsibly and pay our bills. For too long decisions related to the state’s finances were only made with the short-term consequences in mind—this action shows the Legislature is serious about governing with the next generation in mind and laying the foundation for sustained economic growth.
