Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP: Expanding Washington DC office with addition of Robert Clayton

MILWAUKEE (November 29, 2011) – Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP announced today that Robert L. Clayton – who has represented professional football and basketball player associations – has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Clayton was named the National Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Lawyer of the year in 2004. He has served as counsel to the National Basketball Players Association and the National Football Players Association, in addition to representing major universities in their dealings with the NCAA, and providing counsel to sports marketing firms on broadcasting, licensing, and corporate sponsorship agreements.

Mr. Clayton also served as trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. He has more than 30 years of experience with unfair labor practices, arbitration, and collective bargaining negotiations in the healthcare, communications, transportation, construction, printing, gas utility, gaming and sports industries.

Mr. Clayton is a former associate dean at Tulane Law School, where he taught individual employment rights, international labor, and sports law. He earned his law degree from George Washington University National Law Center, after receiving his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, where he was captain of the track team. He was also a partner with the New Orleans law firm of Jackson Lewis and Littler Mendelson.
