MILWAUKEE (Oct. 3, 2011) –Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is proud to announce that Paul F. Heaton has joined its Litigation Practice Group in the firm’s Milwaukee office location.

Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Heaton was a founding partner and managing member of Gass Weber Mullins, LLC, in Milwaukee. Heaton’s trial practice encompasses a wide variety of commercial disputes, with an emphasis on serving clients in the insurance and financial services industry. He has represented clients in agency and employment termination disputes, real estate and investment litigation, unfair trade practices and business torts, internet disparagement claims, insurance bad faith and coverage disputes, and the defense of state and national class action litigation. He regularly appears before state and federal court tribunals and arbitration panels throughout the United States.
Heaton previously served as Vice President-Litigation Counsel for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company where he was responsible for the direction and oversight of all of the company’s litigation including: litigation and arbitration arising out of the company’s insurance investment products and services; real estate investments; public and private securities investments; the company’s national sales and distribution system; and regulatory compliance challenges. In this role, Heaton worked closely with the company’s risk management and communications professionals to address enterprise liability and risk assessment, as well as corporate reputation and crisis communications management.
Heaton served on the Litigation Committee and the Class Action Subcommittee of the American Council of Life Insurers, and is a member of the Society of Corporate Insurance Litigators and the Association of Life Insurance Counsel. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Wisconsin Super Lawyers, and as a leading commercial litigation attorney in the Chambers & Partners listing.
Heaton received his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in English and Philosophy and earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Marquette University.
