FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MILWAUKEE (June 23, 2011)– Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce that attorney shareholder Christine Liu McLaughlin is a 2011 recipient of the Wisconsin Law Journal’s elite Women in the Law award.

The Women in the Law award honors extraordinary women attorneys, judges and legal educators based on the following criteria:

* Women attorneys who have achieved excellence in their respective fields and have influenced other women to pursue legal careers;

* Candidates who have opened doors for women lawyers in a variety of job settings that historically were closed to women;

* Those who have advanced opportunities for women within a practice area or segment of the profession; and

* Those who have otherwise served their profession or community in a manner that has benefited the legal profession.

McLaughlin and other Women in the Law recipients will be honored tonight at a celebratory event at The Pfister Hotel.

“Christine’s leadership, passion, energy and dedication to her clients, issues involving women in the workplace and community service make her most deserving of this prestigious recognition,” said Nic Wahl, managing partner of Godfrey & Kahn.

McLaughlin is a shareholder and member of Godfrey & Kahn’s Labor & Employment Law Practice Group. She has been an attorney with the firm since January 2000. McLaughlin provides counsel on a wide variety of labor and employment law issues ranging from interpretation and application of federal and state employment laws to specialized employee transition matters in complex business transactions. She routinely defends discrimination claims that have been filed with the State of Wisconsin Equal Rights Division and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. McLaughlin also has extensive experience in evaluating and drafting federal and Wisconsin state affirmative action plans, as well as advising on compliance reviews.

McLaughlin has taken on leadership roles within the firm and the surrounding communities. She serves as a member of Godfrey & Kahn’s Board of Directors, is a leader in the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, is chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee and Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF), and is the former chair of the firm’s Recruiting Committee.

In addition to her leadership roles at Godfrey & Kahn, McLaughlin is committed to bringing positive change to surrounding communities in Wisconsin, particularly in areas that affect women and minorities. As a member of the Women’s Initiative Leadership Council at the United Way of Greater Milwaukee, McLaughlin was charged in 2008 with growing the participation of community leaders on the committee, now one of the most successful United Way women’s initiatives in the country. Inspiring many of her colleagues to get involved with United Way, McLaughlin’s work with the Council has helped them carry out their mission to bring together professional women and support the organization’s efforts.

McLaughlin also serves as a board member of the COA Youth and Family Centers and is a member of its Personnel Committee. Her expertise in the human resources field helped her lead the committee in the search for the organization’s new executive director. Today, the organization is growing, serving more than 8,000 children and families, and McLaughlin remains dedicated to promoting the organization’s programs throughout the community while also serving as a volunteer.
