December 20, 2011, Madison, Wisconsin – 1 Erdman Place, owned and managed by The Gialamas Company, Inc. has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) prestigious ENERGY STAR, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection, for the fourth consecutive year. 1 Erdman Place achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in May 2008, the first multi-tenant commercial office building in the state of Wisconsin to do so.
To earn the ENERGY STAR, building designer and occupant, Cogdell Spencer ERDMAN, tracked all energy purchased and generated on-site including electricity, gas, steam and waste fuels. Commercial buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR use an average of 40 percent less energy than average buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The Gialamas Company improves energy performance in all of their developments by managing energy strategically and by making cost effective improvements to existing buildings on a consistent basis.
EPA’s national energy performance rating system provides a 1-100 scale that helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide.
