June 6, 2011 – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that the firm was recognized by CIO magazine as one of the 2011 CIO 100 honorees. This is the eighth time Foley has been honored with this recognition. This annual awards program, now in its 24th year, recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

“This year’s CIO 100 awards draws well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine & Events. “These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere.”

Foley was recognized with this award in large part due to the firm’s technology allowance program, which enables attorneys to purchase their preferred computing and mobile devices, based on their individual working needs, further enhancing their ability to deliver customized client service.

Foley’s business results since implementing the program include enhanced user satisfaction, an increased level of best-in-class mobile technology and a cost savings over the former enterprise procurement model. Additionally, the program has allowed our IT department to redirect support budget and hardware investments toward more core services, reducing overall service costs.

“This program was developed in response to the consumerization of IT, which is recognized as the transformation of tech savvy consumers feeling more competent with and preferring to use specific devices in the workplace,” said Douglas D. Caddell, chief information officer at Foley. “This phenomenon has created a unique opportunity for our business, through which we have been able to empower our attorneys by allowing, and even encouraging, them to purchase and use the computing devices of their choice for business purposes.”

About the CIO 100

The recipients of this year’s CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges’ recommendations and voted on the final 100. Complete coverage of the 2011 CIO 100 awards will be online at http://www.cio.com on August 1, 2011 and in the August 1 issue of CIO magazine.
