Former Wisconsin Governor brings nationally renowned expertise to Foley team

Milwaukee – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle will be joining Wisconsin’s largest law firm, providing expertise to its Wisconsin and national clients.

“We are pleased that Gov. Doyle will be available to counsel clients of our rapidly growing health care and energy practices on policy and regulatory issues faced by those and other highly regulated industries,” said Ralf Boer, chairman and CEO of Foley. “Having worked closely with the White House, high ranking Administration officials and other Governors, Gov. Doyle understands the health care and energy policy issues facing the Obama administration and Governors across the country as new laws and regulations are considered and adopted, and can help our clients anticipate and comply with the evolving regulatory framework facing those industries.”

A Harvard-educated lawyer, Doyle is expected to provide strategic advice and counsel to Foley’s diverse teams of attorneys who serve a wide variety of clients through its offices in Wisconsin, the U.S., and internationally. He is expected to work out of Foley’s Wisconsin offices.

In addition to his work with Foley, Doyle will work with national and local foundations, corporate and non-profit boards and other projects that have been important to him throughout his 20 years in public service.

“Jim Doyle is a seasoned, experienced leader when it comes to public policy and administration. I’m pleased to see he will be continuing his service in the private sector, and putting his expertise to work in the state of Wisconsin,” said Jay Smith, chairman of Teel Plastics, Baraboo, Wis.

“Governor Doyle was effective in working with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce (MMAC) on a number of successful economic development projects,” said Tim Sheehy, president of the MMAC. “Moving forward, his continued work on behalf of local businesses will be a great asset for our state.”

“I’m pleased to see Governor Doyle take this route — continuing his service in a new capacity and working to help business and industry create jobs,” said Gale Klappa, chief executive, Wisconsin Energy Corporation. “The knowledge and expertise that Jim has developed over the years, particularly in the areas of health care, alternative energy and the environment can be tremendously helpful as the economy recovers from recession and new business opportunities emerge.”

“Governor Doyle’s experience, knowledge and reputation as a leader among other governors and with the leaders in our nation’s capital will benefit Wisconsin. This opportunity will allow him to continue the work he began as governor and help Wisconsin companies be more successful in these very difficult economic times,” Joel Quadracci, chairman, president & CEO of Quad/Graphics.

Doyle served as the 44th governor of the state of Wisconsin, in office from 2003-2011. Prior to his election as governor, Doyle served three terms as Wisconsin attorney general, as Dane County district attorney and as a lawyer in private practice. He has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to education and public service. Doyle and his wife, Jessica, spent several years providing education and legal service in the Peace Corps in Tunisia and on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona.
