Festival Foods is proud to celebrate the ninth annual Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children on Monday, September 26, 2011.

Festival Foods is committed to strengthening the local community and believes that celebrating Family Day is an effective way of doing so. Family Day encourages families to join around the dinner table and share a meal and conversation. The experience of eating dinner together as a family not only creates memories, better relationships, and fun environment full of laughter, but it also steers children and teens away from cigarette, drugs, and alcohol.

Studies by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University consistently show that the more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink, or use drugs. CASA’s research also shows that these children also perform significantly better in school.

Mark Skogen, Chief Executive Officer of Festival Foods said, “Family meals and conversations are so important to me. I really enjoy my time around the dinner table with my daughters Sydney and Kennedy. It would be wonderful if all families could find more time to share a meal together because parents really can have a tremendous effect on their children’s choices.”

To encourage families to spend more quality time together, Festival Foods will be awarding great prizes to those who pledge to become Family Day STARs. STARs must pledge to:

Spend time with their kids around the dinner table. Talk to their children about friends, interests, and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Answer their questions and listen to what they say. Recognize that they have the power to keep their children substance free.

Those who pledge online at http://www.festfoods.com will be registered to win the following prizes:

1- A Hot, Fresh Meal for 6 from Festival Foods
1- $100 Festival Foods Gift Card
2- $50 Festival Foods Gift Cards
6- $25 Festival Foods Gift Cards

In the upcoming weeks, Festival Foods will also provide further support for Family Day on their website, http://www.festfoods.com, as well as on their Facebook page and Twitter page. This support will include simple and delicious meal ideas families can prepare together as well as fun questions to get conversations started around the dinner table.
