Dept. of Commerce: Gov. Walker announces 18 Wisconsin communities awarded $8.8 million for housing improvements

MADISON—Governor Scott Walker today announced that 18 Wisconsin communities have been awarded $8.8 million from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce (Commerce) to rehabilitate and expand the supply of safe and sanitary housing for low-to-moderate income households.

“Assistance programs like this one help increase affordable housing options and improve community vitality,” Governor Walker said. “I am pleased that we can provide quality housing across the state, and I commend these communities on their hard work to ensure that Wisconsin continues to be a great place to live.”

The following communities have received awards:

* Village of Birchwood, Washburn County, $300,000

* Village of Birnamwood, Shawano County, $300,000

* Clark County, $608,000

* City of Cornell, Chippewa County, $230,000

* Dodge County, $548,000

* City of Edgerton, Rock County, $650,000

* Village of Junction City, Portage County, $300,000

* Juneau County, $530,000

* Town of Marshall, Rusk County, $650,000

* City of Prairie du Chien, Crawford County, $650,000

* Village of Prairie Farm, Barron County, $210,000

* Rock County, $650,000

* Sauk County, $650,000

* Taylor County, $600,000

* City of Thorp, Clark County, $500,000

* Towns of Vilas/Peck, Langlade County, $287,000

* Waushara County, $650,000

* Wood County, $487,000

The CDBG program administered by Commerce’s Division of Housing and Community Development awards grants to general purpose units of local government for housing programs. Besides funding an array of housing rehabilitation projects, the funds may also provide homebuyer assistance for low-to-moderate income households.
