May 13, 2011 – The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and GrandStay Hospitality is heading to Wisconsin International Raceway this Sunday, May 15th for the track’s season opener.
Local driver and four-time track champion, Jeff VanOudenHoven will be joining the ASAMT again this year. VanOudenHoven has been racing at WIR for 18 years and looks forward to the opportunity to race with the ASAMT for its fifth year.
“I think there is a lot more hype and professionalism when the ASAMT comes. Being a touring series, they have the recognition, corporate sponsorship, and the best drivers in the surrounding states. All of that put together makes it a really big deal for the fans and adds a lot of excitement for us drivers to race against the best of the best,” said VanOudenHoven.
Many local drivers have an advantage when it comes to the D-shaped oval. VanOudenHoven admits that seat time is a big plus at WIR. Because the turns are completely different, VanOudenHoven says the trick is found in getting off turn two. “If you can do that, you’re going to be pretty fast,” added the veteran.
In last year’s event VanOudenHoven proved that seat time is the key. He qualified in the top five and was hoping for a good finish. Unfortunately electrical problems shortened his night. He has high hopes to redeem himself this Sunday afternoon.
Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP said, “It’s important for us to see local involvement and when you get a guy like Jeff joining us, it’s sure to make it an interesting battle for the win at WIR. His car owner (David Hoppa) is a class act and he always prepares a good piece. We are glad they can join us and hope to see them more often.”
The most important part of VanOudenHoven’s weekend is being there for his sponsors. Butch and Raz of Little Chicago helped him put this weekend together as a last minute thing.”We would love to run with the ASAMT more often, but financially we just can’t do it. A lot of hard work has gone into this weekend and I am so grateful for Butch and Raz and the opportunity to run with the ASAMT,” VanOudenHoven said.
Thirty-four drivers, including VanOudenHoven have entered this weekend’s event. Qualifying starts at 11:30AM, with an on-track autograph session at 1:00PM followed by racing at 2:00PM.
Fans can see all three ASAMT divisions for one low ticket price. Tickets for adults thirteen and older are only $15. Twelve and under are FREE! So come on out and see the best local drivers compete against the best touring drivers!
