American Republic Insurance Co.: Free Oct. 8 seminar to detail Medicare program changes

New Berlin, Wis. – A free Oct. 8 seminar at the New Berlin Public Library will offer existing and potential Medicare enrollees a primer on important changes in the federal health care program, plus expanded benefits available under its guidelines.

“The ABCs of Medicare” will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the library, 15105 Library Lane. The seminar will explain the many components of Medicare, and detail recent program changes that will affect many enrollees. Topics will include:
* Medicare facts that all enrollees should know
* How Medicare differs from private insurance
* When seniors should apply for Medicare
* What is covered under Medicare, and what isn’t
* New coverage options available under Medicare
* How enrollees can make changes to their plan
* How Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement policies work

“With Medicare taking on more new enrollees than ever before, it’s critical for people to understand how Medicare operates and their options under the program,” said Sandra Raasch, a Medicare expert with American Republic Insurance Co. who will lead the seminar. “Recent changes have created opportunities for broader, more cost-effective Medicare coverage. There is no ‘one size fits all’ version, though. Enrollees should carefully choose the correct Medicare coverage to meet their needs.”

Medicare is complex and its many components can be hard to grasp, Raasch said. With important program changes pending for 2012, seniors need to ensure that both their health and finances are considered – and protected – moving forward.

Interested seminar attendees are asked to call (414) 239-8290 to register. Refreshments will be served.
