Alsum Farms & Produce Inc.: Hires produce buyer, human resources manager and agronomist

Friesland, WI – October 24, 2011 – Alsum Farms & Produce is growing – thanks to its packaged fresh produce options. Currently employing 130 people, Alsum Farms & Produce and anticipates hiring an additional 30 to 50 employees upon the completion of its new expansion project that includes new office space, a new maintenance shop and additional areas for cooling and packaging. The new hires include Mike Dierks, as Produce Buyer; Matt Smith, as Human Resources Manager; and Nick Goeser as Agronomist and Crop Manager.

Mike Dierks has joined Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc. as a Buyer of Fruits and Vegetables. As such, he will be responsible for sourcing fresh produce for Alsum’s value-added fresh produce products. Alsum provides Wisconsin grocers with over 600 fresh fruit and vegetable products throughout the year by partnering with carefully selected growers and suppliers and growers around the nation – those committed to sustainability and adhere to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

Prior to joining Alsum, Dierks was employed at Sysco Foodservice Eastern Wisconsin where he was a responsible for purchasing, managing inventory and marketing fresh produce to foodservice operators. Dierks has also worked for Sysco Asian Foods in Hampshire, Illinois, was responsible for purchasing and sales at Waukesha Wholesale Foods, Inc. of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and was responsible for warehouse management at Dierks Foods, Inc.

Matt Smith has joined Alsum Farms & Produce as a Human Resources Manager. Smith will be responsible for collaborating with senior executives to ensure company objectives are being met. Smith has over 15 years experience in the field of human resources. He has served as a Human Resource Assistant for Terra Care and a Human Resource Coordinator at Evco Plastics.

Smith earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and has served on advisory committees for the Deforest Area Chamber of Commerce and Madison Area Technical College.

Nick Goeser has joined Alsum Farms & Produce as an Agronomist and Crop Manager. As such, Goeser will be responsible for assisting with potato seed selection, crop management, monitoring fertility and soil nutrients and eco-friendly research consistent with Alsum’s certification as a Wisconsin Healthy Grown® sustainable farmer.

Goeser grew up in Plymouth, Wisconsin and worked on his family’s dairy farm, Goeser Dairy, LLC. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Agronomy and a Ph.D. in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). He served as President of the Badger Crops Club and as a Horticulture Representative for the Plant Sciences Graduate Student Council.

Prior to joining Alsum Farms & Produce, Goeser served as a Graduate Research Assistant in Horticulture and Agronomy at the UW-Madison, and worked with Coors and Kaeppler Labs and Hi-Bred International, Inc.
