An article written by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point associate lecturer Mike Beacom has been named the Wisconsin Sports Story of the Year for 2009.

The article, which appeared in the May 2009 issue of Inside Wisconsin Sports, profiled Amherst’s win over Cuba City in last year’s WIAA State Division 3 girls’ basketball championship game.

Beacom received the award at the Milwaukee Press Club’s annual awards banquet last Saturday. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel won the award last year.

Beacom has served as an associate lecturer of journalism at UWSP since 2005. He is the editor of Inside Wisconsin Sports and the author of three books, with a fourth due out in fall 2010. He resides in Amherst Junction with his partner, Lisa, and their two daughters.
