New North: Five New North companies receive $6.85 million in energy funding to create more than 80 jobs

NEW NORTH, October 19, 2010 – Five New North companies received a combined $6.85 million in funding today from the State Energy Program to help them invest in their manufacturing operations and create 83 new jobs in the region. The awards for Synchrotek, Oneida Energy, Wisconsin Film & Bag, C.A. Lawton and Greenwood Fuels were announced today by Governor Doyle.

“This funding will help these companies continue to invest in the New North, create good jobs, and ensure the region remains a great place to live and work,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc. “These grants also show the New North continues to lead in renewable energy production.”

The New North projects announced today are:

* Synchrotek, Inc. of Ashwaubenon received a $500,000 energy loan to manufacture and commercialize a 100-kW generator. The project will create 13 new jobs.

* Oneida Energy, LLC of De Pere received a $2 million energy loan for a proposed energy recovery project that will covert landfill, farm and other bio-organic waste to energy. The project will create 22 new jobs.

* Wisconsin Film & Bag, Inc. of Shawano received a $1.8 million energy loan to create an industrial plastic film recycling center. The project will create 29 new jobs.

* C.A. Lawton Co. of De Pere received a $1.3 million energy loan to purchase equipment to produce large-energy wind-castings. The project will create 10 new jobs.

* Greenwood Fuels WI, LLC of Green Bay received a $1.25 million energy loan to purchase equipment to expand production capacity at its Green Bay operation. The project will create 6 new jobs.

New North, Inc. is a regional collaboration effort focused on promoting regional cooperation and economic development in an 18-county region in Northeast Wisconsin.
