Miron Construction returns to expand facility originally constructed in 2005-06

Milwaukee, Wis. – Palermo Villa Inc. broke ground on the expansion of their headquarters and production facility – a project for which Miron Construction Co., Inc. is the general contractor – at the Menomonee Valley Industrial Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The expansion will add an additional 100,000 square feet to the existing 135,000-square-foot facility, which houses the company’s corporate offices and production and storage facilities. The construction will incorporate sustainable features and utilize building information modeling techniques. Palermo Villa is the manufacturer of Palermo’s brand frozen pizzas.

“One of the best compliments we can receive as a contractor is to be trusted with repeat business from a past client” said Klaus Lemke, Vice President of Milwaukee Operations for Miron. “The Palermo facility in Milwaukee is a great showcase for the innovation and ideas Palermo’s demands as a company, and Miron’s ability to successfully execute the vision of such a progressive company.”

The current Palermo facility features a number of sustainability components, including motion-activated office lighting, skylights, and low-mow/no-water grasses on the grounds, in addition to being built on a reclaimed Brownfield site.

“As the City of Milwaukee works to attract new business and expand employment, we’re excited to be a resource for developers and business owners seeking a partner who is focused on innovation and sustainability,” said Lemke. “Our experience with food processing and manufacturing facilities will no doubt add value to the region and the State as together we focus on adding jobs and strengthening the economy.”

Earlier this week, Governor Doyle announced that Palermo would receive $342,000 in Wisconsin Department of Commerce tax credits towards the $22 million project, which ultimately is expected to create 56 jobs.
