Madison, Wis.—Michael Best & Friedrich LLP welcomes four attorneys, a patent agent and patent scientist to the firm’s Life Sciences team, including: Ann Benjamin, Michael Langer, Christopher Singer, Ph.D., Sansun Yeh, Ph.D., Anne Reynolds, Ph.D., and Laura Opperman, Ph.D., respectively.

Ann Benjamin is an attorney in the Intellectual Property Group in the Milwaukee office. Ms. Benjamin’s practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to polymers, small molecules, diagnostic assays, disease therapies, animal feeds and supplements, renewable fuels, organic photovoltaic devices and microfabrication. She received a J.D., magna cum laude, from Marquette University Law School, and an M.S. and B.A. both in Chemistry from Northwestern University.

Michael R. Langer is an attorney in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Madison office. Prior to joining Michael Best, Langer worked as an attorney for Kolisch Hartwell, a law firm in Portland, Oregon. His practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark and copyright law, with an emphasis on drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in chemistry and life science technologies. He received a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a M.S. in biochemistry from the University of Utah.

Christopher P. Singer is an attorney in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Chicago office. Before joining Michael Best, Dr. Singer was a partner at McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP, and his practice primarily consisted of patent preparation and prosecution in the biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical arts in the U.S. as well as in foreign countries. Dr. Singer received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School and his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Northwestern University.

Sansun Yeh is an attorney in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Madison office. Prior to working at Michael Best, Dr. Yeh worked as a Wisconsin State Public Defender where she represented indigent clients at the trial and appellate levels. Yeh received a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a Ph.D. in botany from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Anne Reynolds joined the firm as a patent agent and member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Milwaukee office. Dr. Reynolds previously worked as Technology Specialist and Patent Agent where she drafted and prosecuted patent applications and performed patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses for a Massachusetts law firm. She was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

Laura Opperman is a patent scientist in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Madison office. Prior to joining Michael Best, Dr. Opperman was a research assistant at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the biochemistry and genetics departments. Dr. Opperman received her Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
