MEDIA ADVISORY

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle will make several major biotech announcements for Wisconsin at the BIO 2010 International Convention, as the world’s largest biotech conference returns to the Midwest this week. The Governor will be joined by biotech leaders for the announcement tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Wisconsin Booth at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

Governor Doyle has led an aggressive agenda to cement Wisconsin’s status as the nation’s leader in biotechnology and stem cell research. The cornerstone of the Governor’s $750 million bioscience initiative is the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, an interdisciplinary research center that will collaborate directly with industry to turn innovative new discoveries into high-paying jobs.

Wisconsin’s bioscience industry contributes about $8.7 billion to the state’s economy and accounts for more than 34,000 jobs in Wisconsin.

The Governor will also be joined by PGA representatives Barry Deach and Steve Crowley to promote the 2010 PGA Championship being held in Wisconsin in August.
