Contact: Laura Smith, Office of the Governor, 608-261-2162

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today signed Senate Bill 530, regulating payday lenders. Governor Doyle exercised his partial veto authority on the bill prior signing it into law. With the Governor’s partial veto, auto title loans will be banned in Wisconsin and the regulation of payday loans will be tightened.

“For years I have supported stronger standards for payday lenders. Today I am signing a bill that, with my partial vetoes, gives Wisconsin strong regulations to protect consumers.”
