Gov. Doyle: Announces Midwestern Disaster Area Bonds for Calumet County

MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Vern’s Cheese, Inc., Chilton, Calumet County, will receive a designation of $1.3 million in Midwestern Disaster Area Bonds for the expansion of its facility in Chilton.

“Programs like these ensure that Wisconsin stays open for business,” Governor Doyle said. “We must support strong companies like Vern’s Cheese, Inc. that are committed to providing jobs for hardworking Wisconsin families.”

Vern’s Cheese, Inc. will construct a 6,300-sq.-ft. addition to its existing 18,900-sq.-ft. facility and purchase additional equipment. The addition will include a retail store and more office space. As a result of the expansion, the company will create five new positions. Total investment is $1.5 million.

Vern’s Cheese, Inc. is a distributor that sells domestic and imported cheeses, meats, frozen soups, and goat’s milk. It delivers its products throughout Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and parts of Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan.

Midwestern Disaster Area Bonds are a private activity tax-exempt bond. Applicants for a designation are eligible if a company suffered a loss in a trade or business attributable to a disaster occurrence or if a company is carrying on a trade or business, replacing one that suffered a loss.
