Fed Ex Ground: Wausau small business honored with FedEx Ground regional entrepreneur award

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 16, 2010 — FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has recognized Bill Fischer of Wausau, Wis. as a regional Entrepreneur of the Year award recipient. Bill Fischer is the owner of Wild Bill’s Express, LLC which serves as a contracted delivery agent for FedEx Ground station in Wausau, serving customers in Medford, Mosinee, Plover and Stevens Point.

The FedEx Ground Entrepreneur of the Year honor was established in 2007 to recognize business men and women, who have built businesses that most consistently go the extra mile to safely deliver superior customer service, help fellow delivery business owners succeed, and support their local communities. Since the founding of the Entrepreneur of the Year program, FedEx Ground has named 62 regional winners. And Wild Bill’s Express, LLC is just one of 22 regional winners that represented the best for fiscal year ending May 31, 2010.

“FedEx Ground works in collaboration with thousands of dedicated small business owners across the country to deliver exceptional, cost-effective service to the marketplace, including several outstanding businesses in this community. Bill Fischer first contracted with FedEx Ground in December 2007. Wild Bill’s Express, LLC now manages six contracted service areas, employs nine drivers and runs up to nine trucks on any given workday.

The applications for each region are reviewed on a quarterly basis, with one candidate being named and recognized as the regional FedEx Ground Entrepreneur of the Year.

Wild Bill’s Express, LLC, consists of six primary service areas (PSAs), runs two additional supplementals on an almost daily basis and has expanded into the FedEx Home Delivery operation. The company operates full- and short-term swing PSAs for the FedEx Ground time-off program, as well as a short-term swing for the FedEx Home Delivery time-off program.

While Bill Fischer, founder of Wild Bill’s Express, LLC, was nervous about owning his own business and the rapid growth that’s ensued, he’s confident his nine employees are just as determined to succeed as he is. “Without these nine guys,” he states, “the growth of my LLC would not be as rapid or successful as it has been.”

In order to live up to customers’ expectations — which is part of the Wild Bill’s Express, LLC’s mission statement — the company’s drivers participate in regular safety meetings, obtain customer telephone numbers for signature-required packages and notify the customer when a package is in route. “My drivers also communicate daily with other entrepreneurs and their drivers to see if any assistance can be given to anyone who has an increased workload,” says Fischer. “I strongly feel that these guys are the best of the best when it comes to getting the package delivered on time.”
