Dept. of Commerce: Announces funding for water system improvements in Langlade County

MADISON — Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the Town of Elcho, Langlade County, will receive a $ $522,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant–Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to fund water system improvements.

“It is essential for Wisconsin communities to have safe, clean drinking water,” said Governor Doyle. “This improvement project will contribute to the overall health and well being of the community.”

The grant will be used to: replace 5,575 lineal feet of small diameter water mains with eight-inch diameter pipes, construct a new elevated storage tank, install a generator and a SCADA system for emergencies, connect or loop dead end water mains to provide increase water volume and pressure and replace all fire hydrants, approximately 25. The total project cost is $ $1,730,4640 and is expected to be completed by October, 2010.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
