Dells Raceway Park, an ASA sanctioned track, welcomed back their weekly divisions this week. The Late Models, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, and Bandits raced with the full moon shining brightly overhead.

The Late Models returned to the track this week and Bobby Kendall had the fastest car during qualifying with a time of 14.303 seconds. In the feature event of the evening, Steve Lichtfeld led the field to green. Throughout the 40 lap caution free race, Lichtfeld and Hakala battled but Lichtfeld refused to give up the top spot. Meanwhile, Corey Jankowski and Cardell Potter were having their own battle for third throughout the race. With just eight laps left, Potter was able to slide past Jankowski to take over the third. This was Steve Lichtfeld’s first feature win of the season. Rich Schumann Jr won the Fast Dash. Heat race winners were Joel Soenksen and Derek Childs.

In Sportsman qualifying, Daron Fish was fastest, with a time of 15.672 seconds. Starting the feature from the front of the field Becky Grabarski was looking for another win. She was nearly at the halfway point when Curtis Pfister used the outside groove to his advantage, and powered past Grabarski. Pfister opened it up while a 5 way battle for second kept the rest of the field occupied. It came down to the wire, but according to the computer Fish was ahead of Grabarski by 0.001 seconds. Ron Grabarski was the heat race winner.

Point leader, Dave Trute, had fast time during qualifying with a time of 15.850 seconds. An eventful feature was started with Don Fassett losing the wheel from his orange 8 car in the first lap. Just a few laps after the restart Mark Hohl passed up leader Mark Ailes, but with champion Brad Luck and Trute in his rearview, it was anyone’s race. With only five laps left in the race Ailes was still in the lead, but when his car broke he was done for the night, leaving Luck in the top spot. In the final lap of the race, Trute moved to the outside and squeezed past Luck to cross the finish line first. Trute visited Victory Lane for the 7th time this season. Heat race winners were Bill Zeman and Brad Luck.

Bandit driver, Brandon Junget raced around the track quicker than his competitors with a time of 17.440 seconds. The youngest bandit driver at age 13, Haley Kapp, lead the feature from the pole position. Kapp held strong throughout the feature defending pressure from newcomer Kyle Padfield. With just a few laps left in the race, Kapp lost control and spun leaving the door open for Padfield. In Victory Lane, Padfield said it was the first time visiting DRP but that it wouldn’t be the last. Todd Kolpien, Kyle Padfield, and James Junget were the heat race winners.

As an American Speed Association (ASA)-sanctioned track, Dells Raceway Park is part of the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship.
