American Speed Association: Driver shows support of Kwik Trip store grand opening

UTPHALL PUTS CAR ON DISPLAY

September 23, 2010 – On Friday, August 20th, the Kwik Trip Store on 13th and Ryan Rd. in Oak Creek, WI celebrated its grand opening. ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour driver, Shawn Utphall (“ut-paul”) had the honor of displaying his ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour car for the event. Utphall’s race shop is right down the street, so he had a first-hand look at the construction of the new store. “I drive by it almost everyday, so I thought that since they support the ASAMT, it might be a great opportunity to return the favor.”

Utphall contacted the store manager and they were more than happy to include Utphall’s 1988 Monte Carlo and Maddog Motorsports in the celebration. When asked what made the day special, Utphall said that while Kwik Trip is the major sponsor for the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models, the ASAMT is like one huge family, so to be able to support them in anyway showed appreciation for all they do for the entire ASAMT organization.

“Shawn had contacted me about the new Kwik Trip store being built down the street from his shop. I thought it would be a great idea for him and the Maddog Motorsports team to show their support. It means a lot to us that he would take time out of his schedule and volunteer for something such as this. We are proud of the commitment of all of our drivers and sponsors in all three ASAMT divisions,” ASAMT Vice President, Steve Einhaus said.

Utphall is one of several sportsman drivers racing in the inaugural season of the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour, which developed over the winter of 2009. As most people know, racing could not take place without the support of sponsors, whether it be series sponsors, driver’s sponsors, or contingency sponsors. In fact, it is the sponsorship that keeps drivers like Utphall in racing. Utphall’s impression of the series and title sponsors has been nothing less than wonderful. “I have never seen such a personal touch at this level of racing from the series sponsors. They’ve all done such a great job.”

During the grand opening, Maddog Motorsports mostly hung out with the car on display, answered questions, took some photographs, and, always a crowd favorite, took some pictures of kids inside the car. Utphall believes that both Kwik Trip and his racing team benefited from participating. “A lot of local people talked to me afterwards that did not quite understand what our relationship with Kwik Trip was. It was nice to be able to explain to them that while they do not sponsor us personally, we just wanted to show our support for what they do for the ASAMT.”

Now that the store has been up and running for a little over a month, Utphall confesses that he stops there almost everyday as he passes by on his way to and from his shop. “The fuel prices are cheaper for my truck, so that’s a huge benefit. I am trying to eat healthier so I buy a lot of their bananas for 38 cents a pound. I also drink a lot of Nature’s Touch water and they always have some sort of special going on.”

Shawn Utphall was happy to represent the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net and “anytime Kwik Trip wants a car on display, we’d be more than happy to do it.” Utphall’s commitment to the ASAMT and its sponsors shows the level of appreciation that drivers from all divisions share for each and every sponsor.

On behalf of the ASAMT, we thank all of our sponsors and each and every driver for their continued support throughout the 2010 racing season. We look forward to our Championship weekends at Elko Speedway for the Sportsman Championship on Saturday, October 2nd, and the Super Late Model and Truck Championships at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway on October 10th.
