INDIANAPOLIS – July 15, 2009 — WellPoint (NYSE: WLP) today announced that Kevin Hayden, president of State Sponsored Business, was appointed as an Advisory Board member of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board of Directors.
HIMSS is the healthcare industry’s membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of health care information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. HIMSS frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through its advocacy, educational and professional development initiatives designed to promote information and management systems’ contribution to ensuring quality patient care.

At WellPoint, Hayden is responsible for leading WellPoint’s Medicaid business division which currently serves nearly 1.8 million members in 10 states. His career spans more than 23 years in the private and public sectors. Prior to joining WellPoint, he served as Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services for the State of Wisconsin and was responsible for leading all public health and care delivery services for over 900,000 residents. Prior to that, he served as the Wisconsin State Medicaid Director.
