Sun Prairie, Wis. – Wave Wind, LLC, a leading wind energy service provider, recently agreed to purchase six 1.65 MW wind turbines from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). The wind turbines—the first ever sold by HHI in North America—will be transported by Wave Wind from the port of Houston to Wisconsin, where Wave Wind will assemble and erect them for a client.

The agreement represents an important step for both companies.

For Wave Wind, access to a new manufacturing partner will help it better serve its clients by diversifying its supply of state-of-the-art wind turbines. The agreement is also a step towards expanding cooperation between Wave Wind and HHI.

For HHI, access to an experienced wind services partner propels its entrance into the North American wind turbine market—a key step in HHI’s commitment to becoming a world leader in renewable energy manufacturing. HHI can also rely on Wave Wind’s support to ensure the six turbines—the first manufactured at its new 600 MW plant in Gunsan, South Korea—are transported, assembled, and erected successfully.

“We are very pleased that a global manufacturing leader such as HHI has entrusted Wave Wind to support its first big push into the largest, most competitive wind energy market in the world,” said Tim Laughlin, President of Wave Wind. “We also view it as a vote of confidence in the services we offer our clients and partners, the quality of which can only increase with HHI as a partner.”

The 1.65 MW wind turbines purchased by Wave Wind have a rotor diameter of 77 meters and a hub height of 80 meters. The six wind turbines will generate 10 MW of electricity, enough to power 5,000 households.
