Pinehurst Inn has been approved for Green America’s Green Business Network, the oldest, largest, and most diverse network of socially and environmentally responsible businesses in America. Formally established in 1992, the Green Business Network™ was launched with the explicit mission of helping the green business sector – businesses with deep social and environmental commitments – emerge and succeed.

Businesses within the Green Business Network challenge themselves to bring the goals of social and economic justice, environmental sustainability, community development, and improved quality of life for people into all of their activities-production and service, supply chain management, employment and investment, community and vendor relations.

To qualify to appear in the National Green Pages™ and carry the Seal of Approval, companies must demonstrate that they:

* Actively use their businesses as tools for positive social change;

* Run “values-driven” enterprises that operate according to principles of social justice and environmental sustainability;

* Are socially and environmentally responsible in the way they source, manufacture, and market their products and run their offices and factories; and

* Are committed to developing and employing extraordinary practices that benefit workers, customers, communities, and the environment.

Pinehurst Inn is currently also certified by Travel Green Wisconsin, a voluntary certification program run by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. “We see these certification programs as motivators,” says Nancy Sandstrom, Pinehurst co-owner with husband, Steve. “As we go from year to year, the programs push us to continually analyze how we are doing business. The programs keep us honest and keep us improving.”

Another benefit of the approval from Green Business Network is the ability to connect to other businesses. According to Steve Sandstrom, “If we have questions on some product we can’t find or on some energy system we want to research, there is a built-in network of like-minded businesses we can communicate with.”

Pinehurst Inn is open year round operating as an 8-room bed & breakfast. The property includes a variety of renewable systems and green building/remodeling examples. Tours are available with advance requests.
