Orion Energy Systems: State Sen. Hopper to visit Orion Energy Systems today

Hopper to tour facilities and learn about how Orion helps companies shed energy use, costs

MANITOWOC, Wis. — April 13, 2009 — Wisconsin State Sen. Randy Hopper today will visit Orion Energy Systems (Nasdaq: OESX) to learn how the growing company can positively impact the environment by providing energy-efficient technology that reduces customers’ energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Hopper, R-Fond du Lac, will visit Orion at 10 a.m. and will tour the company’s Manitowoc manufacturing facility and new technology center.

“At a time when saving and creating jobs is of great concern to struggling families all over Wisconsin, Orion’s technological advances can help employers save millions of dollars in energy costs that can go into paychecks instead,” Hopper said. “Orion is proof that economic development and a clean environment aren’t mutually exclusive.”

Orion employs approximately 280 workers in Northeast Wisconsin and is a leading power technology enterprise that designs, manufactures and implements energy management systems, consisting primarily of high-performance, energy-efficient lighting systems, controls and direct renewable products for commercial and industrial customers.

“We appreciate Sen. Hopper taking the time to learn about the benefits of energy efficiency and how it can positively affect our economy and the environment,” Orion President and CEO Neal Verfuerth said. “His support in the state senate will further Wisconsin’s goal of becoming a nationwide leader in clean energy — which will help stabilize the economy through job creation and decreased energy costs.”

Orion’s innovation and technology recently won the praise of President Barack Obama, who applauded Orion in a White House speech promoting clean energy, the creation of green collar jobs and the importance of energy efficiency. Obama challenged Orion and other clean energy companies to “mount a historic effort to end once and for all our dependence on foreign oil.”
