Madison, WI – January 20, 2008
Unlike some of Madison’s other community centers, Neighborhood House did not get a new building or upscale renovation in 2008, but we did get some major changes to our innards. April 1st brought our new Executive Director, (Zanna Majerle). May 19th our new Youth Coordinator (Craig Henrickson) and Program Assistant (Oroki Rice) climbed aboard. Zanna, Craig, and Oroki are three of four core employees who oversee daily operation of Madison’s oldest community center.
Neighborhood House is home to various user groups such as Capoeira Angola, Scandinavian American Club, Ballet Folklorico Mexico, RAFT, Operation Welcome Home, Youth in Government, and Dane County Youth Board. We provide food to countless families through our twice-a-week food pantry; free after school care is accessible at Neighborhood House; our summer day camp for youth offers a variety of enriching activities; we host a monthly meal and provide activities for the residents of the Triangle Apartments.
Like many agencies that provide necessities for people in need, our needs have become fiercer while at the same time funding resources have shrunk. Neighborhood House is not exempt from facing the huge economic divide that awaits the very population whom we serve.
We ask that you please consider supporting our current programming by participating in some upcoming events:
Eat lunch or dinner @ Soup Serve @ Neighborhood House, January 23, 2009
Costume Ball, February 7, 2009 @ Great Hall, Memorial Union
Monthly Family Movie Night @ Neighborhood House beginning Friday, February 13, 2009
By any means, stop by our facility and give us a warm neighborly embrace. We may not have shiny floors; our toilet paper keeps coming up missing; we don’t have a state of the art computer lab; our kitchen needs a face lift; but we are always warm and welcoming, and we are committed to breathing life into our home. Do us a favor by getting on board!
