Dells Raceway Park: Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Night

It was an exciting night of racing Saturday night at Dells Raceway Park, when the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series stormed into town with their 800 HP open wheel machines. The show was complimented by the Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Bandits, and FIRA/Rascal Outlaws.

In Hoosier Outlaw Sprint series action a new track record for the series was set in qualifying when Jimmy McCune flew around the track in 11.446 seconds. Veteran driver Hank Lower came out on top of the 50 lap feature followed by Jimmy McCune, Troy DeCaire, Tim Cox, and Ron Koehler rounding out the top five. Heat winners are Tim Cox and Jason Cox.

Rookie and current points leader, Corey Jankowski, took the top spot in Limited Late Model qualifying with a 14.207. Andy Niles and Luke Hoffmann raced hard in the semi feature to earn the transfer positions. Cardell Potter would lead off the feature from the pole position, but with champion Mike Ehde starting in second the pressure was on. Potter held strong against advances from Ehde and led for the first half of the race but a restart at lap 22 gave Ehde the opportunity to gain the lead. When the checkered flag flew Mike Ehde cruised into victory lane.

Andy Niles, Kyle Wolosek, and Derek Childs picked up heat race wins.

In the Super Stock Division, Mike Lichtfeld once again set fast qualifying time with a 14.859. It was a very eventful 25 laps as Rick Coppernoll lead the field to green. Just a few laps in Coppernoll was involved in a caution with Dale Schultz, placing Terry Knupp on the pole for the restart. Clifton Sauey quickly moved past Knupp but returning veteran Brad Muller was soon battling him for the lead. Sauey managed to hang on and visited Victory Lane for the first time in the Super Stock division.

Heat race winners were Rick Coppernoll and John Zuch.

Daron Fish posted quick qualifying time in the Pure Stock division with a 16.118. The invert was kind to Adam Johnson, placing him on the pole for the start of the feature. Despite pressure from Mark Hohl and Kevin Gilding, Johnson was able to hold on to the lead until the checkered flag flew. Don Fassett and Bill Zeman won their heat races.

Brian Warner had another dominating performance in the Bandit division Saturday night setting fast time with a 17.441. Starting tenth in the feature Warner was in the lead by lap two and didn’t look back, claiming another feature win. Heat race winners were Wally Boehm and Brandon Junget.

In the FIRA/Rascal Outlaw division, Jason Mahoney won the feature and Vern Brown won the heat race.
