WisBusiness: Bugher becomes chairm of Madison Chamber board

WisBusiness:

Mark Bugher, director of Madison’s University Research Park, is the new board chairman for the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce. He will serve in that post through December 2009.

Bugher, who headed the state departments of Revenue and Administration under former Gov. Tommy Thompson, is a longtime business and community leader who has led the 515-acre University Research Park since 1999.

Bugher also chairs the Wisconsin Technology Council and the Marshfield Clinic Advisory Board. He serves on the First Business Financial Services Board and Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance Board. A native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Bugher is a recent past chairman of the city of Madison’s Economic Development Commission and was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Educational Excellence by Gov. Jim Doyle in 2003.

Bugher clashed with Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz last year over the appointment of Bill Clingan to head the city’s economic and community development agency. Bugher resigned from the Madison Economic Development Commission over the disagreement. Clingan later withdrew his name for the post.
